Wondering About Something Specific?
The nbn™, short for the National Broadband Network, is a nationwide project in Australia aimed at providing residential homes and businesses with reliable, high-speed internet access. It's a government initiative designed to upgrade Australia’s existing telecommunications infrastructure to a more modern, efficient network. The nbn™ employs a mix of technology types to deliver its services, including fibre to the premises (FTTP), fibre to the node (FTTN), fibre to the curb (FTTC), hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC), fixed wireless, and satellite connections, ensuring widespread coverage and connectivity options to meet different geographic and service level needs.
NBN Co will inform you when your home connects through various technologies, such as:
- Fiber-to-the-node (FTTN)
- Fiber-to-the-basement (FTTB)
- Fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC)
- Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP)
- Fixed Wireless
- Satellite technology
Upon linking your network to Nex Telecom nbn™, it's time to pick your plan. Choose from three unlimited NEX Telecom nbn™ plans, offering great value. Once you select a NEX Telecom nbn™ plan, we liaise with NBN Co to guarantee quick and seamless connectivity.
From 1st April 2016, NBN Co introduced a New Development Charge of $300 GST inclusive for new area subscribers.
For your FTTN/B VDSL connection, a modem router meeting nbn™ VDSL2 equipment standards is required. Nex Telecom ensures all its modem routers are nbn™ compliant and registered.
Using nbn™ compliant and registered modem routers is crucial because if your VDSL2 modem router isn't recognized as compliant by nbn™, they might be hesitant to address or fix any issues with your service. In some cases, non-compliant equipment could lead to your service being put on a Repair Profile or, worse, suspended if it's found to be interfering with other services. Therefore, it's essential that your modem not only supports VDSL2 but also includes and activates nbn™ specific features.
We strongly recommend opting for our nbn™ approved and certified VDSL2 modem routers to ensure uninterrupted network service and receive our complete support.
CG-NAT shares one public IP address among multiple customer services, letting internet providers extend their IPv4 address pool.
Facing IPv4 address exhaustion, Nex Telecom adopts CG-NAT to share scarce IPv4 resources until IPv6 is fully implemented efficiently.
CG-NAT has minimal impact on new Nex Telecom customers. Features like remote device access and server connectivity may require a static IPv4 address, which existing customers keep.
NBN™ Terms Of Use
Before placing an order with our service, it's important to familiarise yourself with our terms of use. Once you've done so, we encourage you to explore the various aspects of our service thoroughly.
To acquire our broadband and home phone services, eligibility requires a minimum age of 18 years and an existing account with Nex Telecom, particularly for transferring services from alternative providers. The service qualification assessment offers a preliminary evaluation of plan availability and pricing specific to your locality. It is important to note that the details provided may be subject to adjustments during the processing of your order and subsequent connection setup. Additionally, both upload and download activities are governed by your allocated monthly data allowance. Exceeding this limit will result in a reduction of your internet speed to 256/256kbps for the duration of the current billing period.
Broadband activation fees are waived when advertised as free, but additional upfront charges may apply depending on the selected service, covering expenses beyond activation, such as:
- Lead-in or Additional Cabling
- Phone Line Activation Fee ( or ) Copper Line Installation Charges
- Additional Line Fee
- Equipment Charges such as Routers or Splitters
- Modems
Missed Appointment Fees and on-site broadband service charges vary based on the complexity of the work and are determined by Nex Telecom's network supplier, with costs inclusive of GST.
NBN Co introduced a New Development Charge for all nbn™ Service Providers starting April 1, 2016. If your location is classified as a new development area during NBN service activation with Nex Telecom, you'll be notified, and NBN Co will levy a $300 GST-inclusive charge. You have the option to include this charge in your monthly payments over a 12-month contract period with Nex Telecom. If you cancel your service before the contract ends, any outstanding monthly New Development Charges will be added to your Early Termination Fee. Opting for a no-lock-in contract on your first invoice will incur a one-time $300 new development fee in addition to Nex Telecom's Service Activation Fee.
Month-to-Month contract term = (Monthly Broadband Plan Charge + Optional Add-On Features) x 1 month) + Service Activation Charge.
Extra service connection charges may apply based on the kind of connection (or reconnection) and the nature of work needed to initiate your new broadband service.
Suppose you decide to end your broadband service before the minimum contract period ends. In that case, an Early Termination Charge (ETC) may apply, but only if you don't comply with Australian Consumer Law guarantees. The ETC is calculated based on the remaining months in your contract. You must notify Nex Telecom 30 days before cancelling. For instance, if you cancel a 12-month contract with three months left, the ETC would be $74.75, calculated as $299 divided by 12 months times three months, including GST.
- Early termination charges are as follows:
- 12-month contract: $299, including GST
- Month-to-month contract: No Early Termination Charge (ETC) applies.
- Nex Telecom doesn't provide any battery backup for NBN FTTP & Wireless services. However, you must be conscious of the results of a mains power outage:
- Your Network Termination Device (NTD) will not operate.
- Your internet connection will not function.
- Your telephone handset connected through your NBN NTD will not work. Also, you won't be able to make calls, including Emergency 000 services.
- Your back-to-base alarm system or medical alarm, which relies on an internet connection, will not work.
You should fully charge your mobile phone, in case you need to make emergency calls.
After ordering with us, you can switch your current phone number to Nex Telecom Home Phone (VoIP) service, allowing calls over the Internet instead of PSTN. A VoIP-compatible modem is required for activation, granting access to discounted Pay-As-You-Go rates, and porting your number is complimentary.
| Call type | Charge |
|---|---|
| Untimed local calls | 10c/call |
| National Calls | 10c/call |
| UCalls to Australian mobiles | 20c/min |
| Untimed 13/1300 Calls | 25c/call |
| Untimed 1223 | $1.00/call |
| Untimed 1225 | $1.65/call |
| NEX Telecom to NEX Telecom | FREE |
Transferring your current phone number is complimentary, although it may take 10 to 15 business days to finalise, depending on your current provider. On the last day of this process, there may be a brief period during which you cannot receive or make calls until the port is complete. If you anticipate needing uninterrupted incoming calls during the transfer, please get in touch with us on +0359 111 233 to explore alternative options.
Note that selecting your current phone number for FTTN, FTTB, and FTTC connections means losing it upon new broadband activation; however, we can port it to our Home Phone (VoIP) service if desired before broadband activation. To initiate the change, we'll need your current phone and supplier account details, and please be aware of any Early Termination Charges from your current provider. Upon activation of our Home Phone (VoIP) service, you'll receive a confirmation email, and we advise confirming with your previous provider to avoid continued billing. Prior to transferring to Nex Telecom, ensure any unique call and service features with your current provider are removed to prevent delays or failures in the transfer process.
This optional add-on service provides unlimited untimed calls to designated destinations, included in the monthly cost of the Unlimited Home Phone (VoIP) Service. This encompasses endless untimed calls to local, 13/1300, standard, national, and Australian phone numbers. Additionally, it enables unlimited untimed calls to fixed landline numbers in countries such as the United Kingdom, New Zealand, the United States of America, China, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Canada, Japan, Singapore, India, and Croatia. Any calls not covered by the Unlimited Home Phone (VoIP) Service will incur additional charges, such as international, satellite and Directory Assistance calls, which will be billed per minute (billed per second). This service is exclusively for residential use and cannot be utilized for commercial purposes. Please refer to our Telephone Acceptable Use Policy for further information.
Nex Telecom does not provide Priority Assistance, a service offered by Telstra to customers with diagnosed life-threatening medical conditions, ensuring access to a fully operational phone service. It's essential to note that only Telstra offers Priority Assistance under its license. For further information on Priority Assistance Services, please refer to Telstra's offers.
We recommend purchasing our ZTE ZXHN H268A WiFi modem with free shipping charges while you order your service. This ensures you avail optimum performance of Home Phone VoIP service while also allowing Nex Telecom to deliver full technical support. However, Nex Telecom charges a modem fee of $79 if you unsubscribe from your month-to-month service within 6 months of activation. You can find full specifications for the modem here.
When purchasing a fixed-line broadband service from Nex Telecom, a $1 verification charge will be debited from your credit card or bank account. This amount will be credited back to your account on your first monthly bill or sooner if service activation is unsuccessful. If you've ordered a modem, your bill for the modem and shipping will be sent at least 4 days before service activation, and your account will be debited accordingly. Your Nex Telecom service's activation date is your anniversary date.
-
We will email your first bill once your service is active, and after 10 business days of the invoice date, we will debit your credit card or bank account for:
- Any broadband activation charges scheduled
- Any extra service connectivity charges (such as New Development Fee or Additional site work)
- Your first month reprising plan fee
From the second month, your monthly bill will be sent via email on your anniversary date each month. These bills will encompass charges for the current month's recurring plan fee and any excess usage or billable activities from previous months. Your nominated bank account or credit card will be automatically debited approximately 10 business days after your anniversary date.
Nex Telecom shares your information with a credit reporting agency to know your consumer credit report when you order a service. Also, it allows the credit reporting agency to generate or maintain a credit information file holding information about you. This includes the details you furnished while ordering your service from Nex Telecom.
Changing your Nex Telecom nbn™ plan is free, even within your contract term, allowing you to move to a higher or lower value option without incurring a fee while maintaining your current contract end date. Log onto My Nex Telecom or call +0359 111 233 to select your new plan; however, note that plan changes are limited to once per month.
If you modify your monthly data allowance, your plan change takes effect immediately. You'll receive a new invoice the next business day, crediting the unused portion of your old plan's month and charging your new plan's full monthly fee. Your plan anniversary date will align with the invoice date, and future bills will reflect this change.
The following example explains how your change of plan will be billed and what happens to your anniversary billing date.
- Your plan change request is activated on 17th March
- Your previous plan fee was $39.99 per month
- Your new plan fee is $49.99 per month
- We will email an invoice to you on 17th March, which you will receive for the service on the 17th of each following month. This first invoice will include a pro-rated credit for your old plan's monthly fee for 17th March to 31st March, calculated as follows:
- T$39.99/31 days = $1.29 per days
- $1.29 x 15 days remaining in March = $19.35
Plan change promotional credits such as "first month free" will also appear on your first invoice. So, for example, if the promotion offers the "first two months free," we will credit you for your first two invoices.
Your new and future invoices will also include your new monthly plan fee of $49.99. Once we receive your invoice, we will debit your nominated credit card or bank account within ten business days.
